Dr. Sonya Williams was born and raised in Durham. She attended medical school at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and went on to complete a Family Medicine Residency at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC. Her love for women’s health and maternity care led her to her second residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, also completed at New Hanover Regional Medicine Center, where she served as administrative chief resident.

Dr. Williams has a special interest in women’s primary and preventative care, family planning, and care for medically complex pregnancies.

Her husband is also a physician and they have two young children. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family, trail running, and spinning.

Dr. Interaction was fine as usual. The NA was not top notch and can’t take a suggestion or criticism well. I know she’s to ask if someone has had a mammogram, I stated no and she should read the information in a person’s chart, I suspect the provider sees other patients who have had a double mastectomy. I heard her in the hallway upset about my comment, Also have her review about exams, the doctor still checks my chest area. Dr. R didn’t do the anal exam, not sure why.

Lauri is always very good about explaining things where I can understand, since I do not have a medical background.
