Dr. Olson grew up near Grand Rapids, Michigan. She received her BS degree at Western Michigan University and then attended Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, where she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Her obstetrics and gynecology residency training years were done at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, where she served as Administrative Chief Resident. Dr. Olson was recently awarded the Department of Biological Sciences Alumni Achievement Award from the College of Arts and Sciences of Western Michigan University. Dr. Olson joined the Durham Women’s Clinic in 1993.

Dr. Olson practices office gynecologic care, including office gynecologic procedures. She has enjoyed caring for women and their daughters throughout her many years at Durham Women’s Clinic.

Dr. Olson has two grown sons, two dogs and four “granddogs”. Her interests outside of medicine include tennis, gardening, piano, travel, fossil hunting, reading, and genealogy.

I was really surprised how kind and quickly I was offered an appointment to come in same day. The person I spoke to was extremely patient and helpful and found an appointment for me. Dr. Sapp wasn’t in that day and I saw Dr. Mitchum. She was wonderful. She immediately diagnosed the issue and explained the cause to me. She really put me to ease over something I was so scared about. Every aspect of the exam, I felt comfortable despite my anxiety and being embarrassed about the problem and my weight, etc. She is a wonderful doctor and person.

Office Visit / Follow-up

Honestly my favorite doctor and favorite doctor's office to visit. Very considerate. Educates, but in a very respectful way. Lets you be part of the decision and very respectful of choices and beliefs, even if they aren't the same as hers. Very kind. Very knowledgeable and up-to-date. Have never had trouble with front desk staff or had to wait more than just a few minutes in the waiting room or patient room. Nurses are also respectful and kind.
