Annual Exams
Annual Exams
Maintaining your well-being as a woman depends on regular screenings and exams so you and your provider have a better understanding of your health status. Annual exams also enable your healthcare professional to catch any minor issues and treat them effectively. Your annual gynecological exam is important for you as a woman at all stages of your life.
Find A ProviderUnder 21:
A regular health exam should start as early as 13 or 14 years. Although a pap smear will usually not be done until age 21, a teenager should be screened for issues as she begins menstruating. Sexually active young women should also start to get regular screenings for diseases and other health concerns.
Find A ProviderAges 21-39:
An annual exam for a woman in her 20s and 30s will include a pap smear, a breast exam, and an overall screening for blood pressure, weight, and family history identifying any potential health risks. Reproductive health will also be addressed during these visits.
Find A ProviderAges 40+
As a woman ages, her health situation will evolve as well. Regular mammograms should begin at this point. Other screenings for a woman in her 40s and beyond will include diabetes, colorectal cancer, and bone mineral density. Health during menopause and post-menopause will also be addressed during these visits.
