Jen was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She attended Clemson University and graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2013. She moved back to south Louisiana and worked as a Registered Nurse (RN) in both a Cardio-thoracic Stepdown Unit and Labor & Delivery (L&D) Unit in New Orleans. She then completed her Master of Science in Nursing in 2018, specializing in Nurse-Midwifery, from Frontier Nursing University. While working on her master’s, Jen continued working as an L&D RN at both Roper St. Francis and the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Jen obtained her accreditation to practice through the American Midwifery Certification Board in 2018.

Jen has been practicing as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) since 2019. She has experience in both active and expectant management of labor. Jen’s joy in her job as a CNM stems from the midwifery philosophy of being “with woman.” This includes caring for women through all aspects of life including pre-conception, prenatal care, labor/delivery, postpartum, and routine GYN/contraception management. Jen is very passionate about patient education and shared decision-making with her patients.

Jen and her fiancé Joe recently moved to Charleston. They are incredibly active and enjoy the beach, spending time with family, trying new restaurants, and cooking gourmet meals together at home. You can find them spoiling their dachshund Bacchus, named after the god of wine.

Nurse Winkler is precisely the type of provider I have been looking for (on my 4th OB at this point!). During my first pregnancy I desperately wished for a prenantal practitioner that had knowledge of practices like spinning babies and was more likely to provide alternate solutions rather than immediately prescribe medicine. I am hopeful that nurse Winkler is the solution to this search, I feel so grateful and encouraged! However, during my last appointment I had specific fertility questions as we are now trying to conceive after a miscarriage. I believe there are some blindspots in Mrs. Winkler's fertility knowledge and generally found our 10 minute consult to be unhelpful. In hindsight, I wish I would have asked to have an appointment with a practinioner at the office who has the most fertility knowledge. Unfortunatley, I don't have the money to reschedule another appointment. In addition, I was specifically seeking consultation on the medicine known as Clomid. She told me that that drug is not prescribed at the practice which is blatant misinformation as I know of several women who have been prescribed this medicine at this practice from their respective providers. I found this to be very frustrating and disheartening. I am hoping to seek other resources during our fertility journey and very much look forward to meeting with Midwife Winkler when I am next pregnant.

My appointment was on time - they called me in early actually. No waiting in the exam - the staff were friendly and relaxed. The appointment was short and sweet - they answered all of my questions. I felt they cared. My first time seeing Jennifer. I really liked her.

Gynecological Problem Visit

I found this visit a true waste of time. After expressing my concerns for abnormal bleeding for over a month the only thing she was willing to offer was an ultrasound at a later visit and to keep my appointment with Dr. Hamilton scheduled for this week. When I asked what she thought could possibly be wrong she stated “I don’t know that would be a great question for Dr. Hamilton”. No labs were ordered or recommended. No guidance was offered aside from coming back to see Dr. Hamilton.

IUD Insertion / Removal

IUD could not be inserted because my cervix was closed. Clinician advised to see my regular OBG and come back for insertion. Would need to take a medication the night before to soften my cervix before IUD could be inserted.

Annual Well Woman Exam

At my visit yesterday I saw two ladies I hadn’t met with before - Allie and Jenn, and they were amazing. Delightful personalities in two different ways, open to questions and awkwardness and all the things you worry about when you go to the gyno. This should have been a fairly stressful visit because I went in pain and got a very thorough eval/testing. Everything step of the visit was easy, even when it didn’t feel so good. I’m so grateful for visits like this. I do not take this kind of care for granted and hope those ladies read this! Thank you for your patience with me and for all your insight.

Because she was going over information that my normal doctor had already went over. And she couldn’t find baby heart rate with the Doppler she used a old ultrasound machine and the picture was blurry and she still didn’t tell me my baby heart rate
