Mel (she/her) is a trained Family Practice Nurse Practitioner with over ten years working with high-risk pregnancies. She has worked closely with families affected by chronic diseases such as diabetes, substance use disorders, and other long term health conditions.

As a certified addiction advanced practice provider, Melinda is passionate about eliminating the stigma associated with substance use disorders and ensuring every woman has access to quality care.

Melinda earned her Bachelor of Science from Purdue University and her Master of Science from Western Carolina University. She is also a certified diabetes educator. She has two teenage children and enjoys spending her free time with her family and her dogs.

Routine Pregnancy / Prenatal Appointment

My last appointment was with my Centering group, led by Mel Ramage. The only reason for the rating of 4 instead of 5 is more the format/use of time in the Centering appointments, not a reflection of Mel's support/knowledge/guidance. Mel has been fantastic! The Centering appointments are two hours long and typically the first hour feels largely like an inefficient use of time. Understanding that this is the time when patients are taking turns meeting independently for measurements/personal questions, I still wish there was a way to make that time for the rest of the group in that window feel less like a get-to-know-you hour, particularly as we are now halfway through the program. Not to say the small talk and some story-sharing isn't helpful in some respect...it's just hard to interrupt the workday for two hours on such a regular basis with half the appointment time feeling unproductive. The last few weeks we haven't gotten to all of the questions from the group by the time the two-hour window is up because we don't start the weekly discussion until an hour or more into the appointment window.
