Melissa Black is a Certified Nurse-Midwife who completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing at the University of South Carolina Columbia in 2003. For 18 years she has worked as a Registered Nurse in various areas including labor & delivery, home health, and the legal field. She obtained her Master’s degree in Nursing – Nurse Midwifery from East Carolina University.
Melissa has called Wayne County, NC home since 2008. She lives in Mount Olive, NC with her husband, Chris, who is retired from the U.S. Air Force, and their two sons. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening and taking care of the animals on their hobby farm. Melissa is passionate about women’s health, patient education, and advocacy and she is excited to be a part of the Wayne Women’s Clinic team!

Routine Pregnancy / Prenatal Appointment

For a simple ultrasound appointment (not even the initial 2 hour visit), I was there over 2 HOURS DESPITE ARRIVING ON TIME! WITH A 5 AND 6 YEAR OLD CHILD AND NO ONE EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED OR APOLOGIZED FOR THE WAIT! It took over 30 minutes for them to even check me in! I had to wait over an hour to even be called back for the ultrasound, and then waited 45 minutes for Melissa Black to come in - only to say "your ultrasound is measuring exactly on time! Look forward to seeing you next time!" UM WHAT? The ultrasound technician could have told me that! How absurd. She has no bedside manner. I had to ask about the low heart rate of my baby, which she admitted was low and may change, but I've never been so disgusted at a doctor's appointment and have seriously considered leaving the practice all together for this pregnancy.
