Dr. Mitchum grew up on James Island and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2009 with a degree in Chemistry and a minor in Medical Ethics. She went on to obtain her medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. She completed her residency training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX.

Dr. Mitchum has special interest in minimally invasive surgery. She is certified in Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery and received the Excellence in Minimally Invasive Surgery Award amongst her residency colleagues. She also has special interest in adolescent gynecology and loves obstetrics!

She and her husband, Phillip, love the outdoors. In her time away from the hospital, you can find her out on the water, camping, running or spending time with her family.

Dr. Mitchum is kind, professional, and efficient. I was terrified to get my IUD removed, but she made the whole experience comfortable, unassuming, and super quick. I had to ask, “Was that it? Are we done?”, after the removal; I was extremely relieved!

Doctor Mitchum is very good at what she does! I love the new office at Ellis Oak and the fact that she has created so much of it's soothing beauty. As a result, the atmoshpere is very relaxing. I also enjoyed meeting some of her staff-very friendly and sincere. Just to say, it's been at least three years since my last visit with Dr. Mitchum. Covid was the reason. It's good to be back, especially because of my age. It is really important to keep up the visits in womanhood.
