Dr. Rita Kaplon grew up in Johnson City, TN and has resided in Asheville, NC since the summer of 2019.

She attended Oberlin College in Ohio where she earned her B.A. in neuroscience and a minor in Chemistry. Besides excelling in her studies, she was also all conference and team captain of Oberlin’s volleyball team.

Dr. Kaplon received her medical degree at The Ohio State University in 2015 before completing her residency at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 2019.

Dr. Kaplon and her husband moved to Asheville with their toddler to join Laurel OB/GYN in 2019. She is a proud mother who keeps busy with her son in various toddler-friendly activities around Asheville and the outdoors.

Providing evidenced-based care women’s health has been a passion of Dr. Kaplon’s since her late teens. She values patient autonomy and prioritizes shared decision making with her patients, therefore, ensuring they feel empowered and aware of their health.

Outside of practicing medicine, Rita enjoys spending time with her family and friends as well as cooking and hiking.

OB Care

A little thrown off by speed of appointments and doctors asking me if I have questions rather than providing information up front but at the same time understand this with the amount of information online that we all have access to. Nurses are all so sweet and make you feel really comfortable!

Annual Exam

Both my nurse (Shannon, I think) and Dr. Kaplan we're courteous. Made eye contact. Communicated clearly about all actions they were taking. I did not give a five star rating as Dr. Kaplan seemed cold and not her usual friendly self. I also waited after the nurse saw me for quite a while to be examined. Her care also seemed rushed and perfunctory.
