Dr. Taam-Akelman is a native of Ithaca, New York. She attended Cornell University for her undergraduate degree and the Medical University of South Carolina for her medical degree and OB/GYN residency. Prior to joining Lyndhurst she worked as an OBGYN in Greensboro, NC. Dr. Taam-Akelman enjoys providing comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care for patients of all ages to help them meet their healthcare goals. Her particular interests include: preventative health, contraceptive counseling, preconception planning, obstetric care, vaginal birth after cesarean section (VBAC), and minimally invasive surgery. She is trained in hysteroscopic, laparoscopic, robotic, and vaginal surgery. In her free time, she enjoys running, yoga, cooking, and spending time with her husband and dog.

OB Care

Having to go through losing the heartbeat was one of the most terrifying things I’ve endured. They made me walk across the hall from suite 2 to suite 4. I felt like everyone saw me crying my eyes out and that’s the only negative thing I have to see. The nurses and the doctor were terrific and handled me in every gracious way during this time. My recommendation would be not to have walk out in front of the lobby again

Routine Pregnancy / Prenatal Appointment

When I asked Dr. Taam about vaccinations. In particular the t-dap. She gave me the most text book answer and told me to look online at a website. I would have liked for my doctors that could possibly be delivering my child give a more informative answer. Sending me to a website as a first time mom seemed like she didn’t even care about my feelings. She wasn’t in the room 2 min. I had to ask her about my measurements to make sure I was doing well. Still didn’t give me any details. She just overall seemed very robotic and programmed.

Treatment / Procedure

Dr. Taam was great with the procedure but told me that I almost definitely had an viral infection even though I had been vaccinated for said infection. After waiting weeks for a call about the results from pathology she called me without a real answer and said that the results where negative but I still might have the infection but there was not way to know and no other tests to find out. I later got a second opinion and was told that my symptoms did not stem from an infection whatsoever and that I had been misdiagnosed and my actual diagnosis was something much simpler and nothing to worry about.
