Dr. Summer Gilmer, who is originally from Spartanburg, S.C., has resided in Asheville for the past six years.

She went to undergraduate school at Wofford College in her hometown, where she studied biology and was a member of the school’s tennis team. She earned her medical degree from the University of South Carolina, in Columbia, and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville.

After her training she worked in Boone, N.C., for five years before returning to Asheville to join Laurel OB/GYN.

Dr. Gilmer enjoys following a patient through her pregnancy, getting to know her personally, and continuing to see her throughout her lifetime. Whether its an annual exam or another gynecological concern, she provides individualized care to address her patient’s unique needs and health goals.

Dr. Gilmer is an active mom to a son and daughter. When she’s not providing care to her patients, she can be found playing outside with her kids or trying to defeat her children at card games, like UNO and Go Fish. She’s also an avid reader and runner.

Skin Infections

I called to leave a message on Friday night in an extremely uncomfortable state...I received a call back as soon as the office opened Mon from nurse Heather and was given an appointment with Dr Gilmer at 10 am! Once I arrived I was seen quickly and Dr Gilmore diagnosed my skin issue and prescribed a steroid ointment. It has helped tremendously and I'm grateful to be taken care of so nicely. ?

Routine Pregnancy / Prenatal Appointment

It was my first meeting with this provider, and she did not understand why I keep getting glucose tests ordered. Also, I mentioned concerns about hip mobility and we jumped straight to the possibility of a c-section--this is not the first time a provider at Laurel has jumped to an extreme option after a basic question.

I was told my results would be given to me Wednesday or Thursday. No one called me & I had to call to get my results to be reviewed. The doctor I had seen left for the day before she reviewed my results. At that point I was told I'd get a call by the end of that day & didn't. I called again to express my panic with the fact that I'm still in pain with absolutely no explanations or recommendations & was told "I'll call you right back." This was an hour ago & I haven't heard anything. The fact that I've told multiple people I'm actively experiencing pain & haven't received a single follow up call is completely unacceptable and extremely alarming. I understand delays, but don't tell your patients that results will be in by a certain time & then let results go unaddressed. This experience will make me seriously question before making another appointment with your office.
